The coat of arms of Šamac is prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu opštine Šamac, published in 1995 in the Municipal official gazette Službeni glasnik opštine Šamac, No. 1. This is repeated in Article 7 of the Municipal Statutes Statut opštine Šamac, adopted on 27 May 2005 by the Municipal Assembly and published in Službeni glasnik opštine Šamac, No. 4 (text), as follows:

The symbol of the Municipality of Šamac is in a shield shape, coloured blue, ending in its top part with tower cranellations shaped in the shape of letter Š in which the name of the municipality of Šamac is inscribed.
The central part of the symbol consists of a red equilateral cross with four iron-bars ("golden beams")* coloured golden yellow.
The bars are on their outer sides away from the cross opened.
In the frontal parts of the bars, from the shapes of letter Š, are the following stylized symbols:
- in the first (left top), a wheat ear;
- in the second (right top), cog gears;
- in the third (left bottom), a vessel mirrored from the water;
- in the fourth (right bottom), an opened book.
The bars around the cross make shapes of four stylized firesteels.
In the bottom part of the symbol from the bottom end of the cross is a stylized anchor.
The stylized symbols in the bars, the four firesteels, the anchor as well as the edge parts of the coat of arms are coloured golden yellow.

*The iron-bars are in shape of the so-called Channel-shaped (or C-shaped) construction steel.

Invalidation of the coat of arms

The Decision prescribing the coat of arms was invalidated by Decision Odluka o prestanku važenja Odluke o grbu opštine Šamac, adopted by the Municipal Assembly on 30 July 2010 and published on 2 August 2010 in Službeni glasnik opštine Šamac, No. 16 (text).
The Decision was triggered by the initiative of a Bosniak group, who officially challenged the consitutionality of the symbol (considering it represents only one of the three nations of Bosnia, which is against the State legislation - just as in so many examples in the current local symbol in the entire country). However, the same prescription was kept in the Municipal Statutes.
