Description of the flag

The third largest shipping company in Austria-Hungary was Austro-Americana also known as Unione Austriaca di navigatione Austro Americana e Fratelli Cosulich Società anonima. The Kosulić brothers were from Mali Lošinj (Lussinpicolo), today in Croatia, while the company had seat in Trieste. On their flags see our Italian pages. Presumably the red stripes atop and in the bottom of the saltire flag were inspired by the Austrian colours. The green and white (with red of the stripes) giving the Italian tricolour. However, I am not sure that this flag was used in the pre-1918 period, when the "Bremen-like" flag might have been used (inspired by Croatian cheques?). In any case the current company, was based in Zurich uses the "Bremen-like" flag (http://www.cosulich.it/)
