The whole action is meant to take place on 25 November of each year, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Originally, this was a remembrance day for the murder of three sisters in the Dominican Republic, on 25 November 1960 [1]. Since 2001, the German organisation "Terre des Femmes" has encouraged the "Fahnenaktion", the display of this flag on 25 November [2].
