Background

Lobito is a municipality in Benguela Province in Angola, located on the Atlantic Coast north of the Catumbela Estuary.  It consists of the communes of Canjala, Egipto, Praia and Lobito. It is the coastal terminus of the Benguela Railway which links the copper belt regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia with the port.

The flag of Lobito is blue with the city emblem, above the name of the city, in white in the centre.  The emblem is in the form of a shield with a sun rising above stylistic waves.

Prior to the independence of Angola in 1975, Lobito used a coat of arms based on the Portuguese pattern.
