Canelas Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Caminha Municipality (q.v.); it had 1438 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 10.7 km².

Shield Vert divided by a fess wavy Azure fimbriated Argent, in central chief scales Or and a sword flamy Or bladed Argent, in base a duck Argent armed Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers and white scroll with inscription in black initials "FERMELĂ - ESTARREJA" "" (village rank)
Meaning:
Sword and scales are attributes of St. Michael, the local patron saint, the bar wavy is representing the lagoons of Lower Vouga and Adem, the duck is representing a local species living in the lagoons.
