I came across a press release posted on the US Coast Guard website regarding the transfer of ownership of a lighthouse in Oregon on 3 August 2013 from the USCG to the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians. The press release includes several photographs of the transfer, including one of the tribal leaders hoisting the flag of the Confederated Tribes above the lighthouse to replace the Coast Guard ensign. In the photograph, the flag appears to be a full-color rendition of the Confederate Tribes' seal centered on a royal blue field. According to the press release, "two Coast Guard members lowered and removed the Coast Guard ensign, which was then replaced by the Confederated Tribal flag, during a ceremony where approximately 24 acres of land, including the Cape Arago Lighthouse, were transferred to the tribes." The press release and photo can be seen at

Following up on that discovery, I also found on the Wikimedia Commons site another version of the flag for the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians. Posted by user "Xasartha," the flag features the seal of the Confederated Tribes in white outlines on a blue field. According to the notes on the file, the user created the rendition "based on an image I found on the internet which seems in the meanwhile to have been removed." At this point, having found no other references to this particular variant, I am hesitant to claim it as truthful, especially when we have the above-mentioned photograph from the US Coast Guard showing a different version. For those who are interested, however, and in the interests of full disclosure, the Wikimedia version of the tribal flag can be found at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_the_Confederated_Tribes_of_the_Coos,_Lower_Umpqua_%26_Siuslaw_Indians.png.

Wikipedia shows a two-color (blue/white) version, and I have a series of small photos of that and a full color version (best image visible at www.dvidshub.net).
