About the Uruguay Athletes' Federation

The Uruguay Athletes' Federation ("Agrupación de Atletas del Uruguay" - AAU), was founded on 22 May 1965, as "an institution aimed at socially and culturally unite all the athletes and fans of athletics of the country" (Article 1 of the AAU Statutes, last amended on 9 July 1992 by the AAU General Assembly).

The AAU is distinct from the national athletics federation, the Uruguay Athletics Federation (CAU, "Confederación Atlética del Uruguay"), which is affiliated with the Uruguay Olympic Committee and the IAAF.

The flag of the Uruguay Athletes' Federation

The flag of the AAU is described in Chapter II, Article 8 of the AAU Statutes ("Flag and emblem"), as follows: "The federation shall use as its representative emblem a light blue flag, transversally crossed from top to bottom by a white stripe charged with the red letters 'A.A.U.' ."
