The Pittsburgh Steelers play in the American Football Conference (AFC) North division, part of the National Football League (NFL). The team was founded in 1933 and is the oldest franchise in the AFC. Throughout their history, the Steelers have won division championships 22 times (1972, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1983, 1984, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2014, and 2016), won the conference championship eight times (1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1995, 2005, 2008, and 2010), and won six Super Bowls (Super Bowl IX in 1974, Super Bowl X in 1975, Super Bowl XIII in 1978, Super Bowl XIV in 1979, Super Bowl XL in 2005, and Super Bowl XLIII in 2008), and appeared in the playoffs 30 times.
The Steelers franchise is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and play their home games at Heinz Field.

Official flags

There are two flags used by the Pittsburgh Steelers organization at the football games. The flags are carried on the field and used to introduce the players prior to the game, then are carried on the sidelines during the game to keep the crowd engaged and cheering.

The first of these flags features the Steelers team logo (gold, blue, and red four-pointed stars within a white disc in a grey ring) centered on a black field.

The second flag is nearly identical to the first, but with the team logo on a gold field.

This flag is a cross between a Pittsburgh Steelers fan flag and Star Wars fan flag. A similar flag is being made for most NFL teams. The flag has a profile of Star Wars villain Darth Vader on the hoist and the team's logo on the fly. In between are the words "YOU UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE" in one of the team's primary colors on a field of another of the team's colors, with the result being a vision of Darth Vader saying "You underestimate the power of the [NFL team name]."

These have become popular designs for fans of many of the NFL teams. It refers to the fans that have pledged their allegiance to their team. One design is based on the stars and stripes of the American flag, with the colors changed to reflect the team's primary colors, with the team's logo overlaying the stars of in the canton. A second design shows the team's logo centered in the upper half of the flag on a field of one of the team's primary colors. A white stripe separates the logo portion of the flag from the lower one-fourth, which bears the word "ALLEGIANCE" between two stars, all in one of the team's primary colors on a field of another of the team's colors.

Steelers Country flag

This is another popular design for fans of many of the NFL teams. It refers to the territory of fans of the team. The design shows the team's logo in the upper hoist and upper fly corners on a field of one of the team's primary colors. Between the logos are the words "YOU'RE IN" above the name of the team, with the word "COUNTRY" in the bottom, all in the team's other primary colors.
