Description of the flag

Dark green flag with ratio ~5:8 and large seal over all (diameter: 2/3 of the flag's height). The seal shows a sunset (or sunrise) scene with snowy mountain and rolling river surrounded by a wide border divided in a white part (from 8 o'clock to 4 o'clock) reading "GREENE COUNTY" in tan serif capitals between two scrolls and a tan part (from 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock) reading "1800" and "NY" in black serif capitals separated by a double scroll; all around a thinner rim, white with black lining, filled with 51 tan fleurs de lis pointing to the outside.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 21 February 2007

This image depicts the sun setting over the Catskill Mountains and the Hudson River. The year 1800 indicates when the county was first incorporated; the green background stresses the importance of the outdoors to county residents.

This is the flag of Greene County that was in use from 1976 to 2003. I was told this by a Senior Administrative Assistant in the Green County Clerk's Office.
