Sally Gestaut, right, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Gestaut; and Paula Frerking Jr. Far Right, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herber Frerking Jr. both received $25 United State savings bonds for their winning designs in the LaMonte Community Flag Poster Contest, sponsored by LaMonte Community Betterment. More then 70 LaMonte R-IV Grade School children entered the contest. Their two designs were combined into one, creating a flag with a blue horizontal line on top of a green horizontal line with a yellow triangle at one end which displays the LaMonte city seal. Their explanation of the flag reads, "Blue is for the sky, green is for the grass, yellow is for the sun shinning over LaMonte and shining through the LaMonte city seal"
