Description of the flag

The City of Svobodnyy is an independent city in Amurskaya Region. Its coat of arms was adopted on 10.07.1996, and its flag on 06.04.2006.

The flag is a rectangular cloth of three horizontal stripes: the top one is white, the middle one is yellow, and the bottom one is blue. The ratio of the flag's width to its length is 2:3. The top horizontal stripe (1/2 the width of the flag) is white and symbolizes the city of Svobodny. The middle horizontal stripe (1/5 the width of the flag) is yellow and symbolizes the oldest district of the city - Surazhevka. The bottom horizontal stripe (3/10 the width of the flag) is blue and is separated from the middle horizontal stripe by a white wavy belt, reminiscent of a river wave (with four crests), the width of which is 1/15 the width of the flag. The blue color symbolizes the Zeya River, on the banks of which the city of Svobodny is located.

Coat of arms

image located by Valentin Poposki, 6 October 2025

The coat of arms is a quadrangular heraldic shield with rounded lower corners, pointed at the tip, in the middle of the gules (red) field of which there is a golden torch, the staff of which is white and framed by three parallel vertical gules (red) stripes, not touching the bases of the staff, and below there is a horizontal stripe (1/10 of the width of the coat of arms), which is azure (light blue) and bordered by a white wavy belt, reminiscent of a river wave (with ten crests), accompanied at the top by a golden belt in the form of three connected arcs, of which the middle one is higher than the outer arcs. In each of the arcs a thin overturned rafter is inscribed."

The city's modern coat of arms probably symbolizes the railway bridge across the Zeya River, near which Svobodny was founded, and the presence of a test spaceport in the city (the torch).
