Former Sonim commune (until 2013)

In 2013 Barreiros commune was absorbed by the neighbouring Sonim Commune to form the new Commune of Sonim e Barreiros, one of the 5 such new communes in Valpaços municipality. No flag is known for either the new merged commune nor for the former commune of Sonim.

Meaning:
The word "barreiro " (plural: "barreiros ") means "clay pit" - this meaning doesn't seem to be included on the arms, which is heavy on the Animal and Vegetable Kingdoms, but shy on the Mineral.
