It is a slightly untypical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of yellow and red .

The arms are Or upon base wavy of Azure and Argent a rampant lion Gules charged with a scallop Argent in dexter and sinister chief an amphora Gules. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "CERNACHE".
