Brzozów county

Brzozów County (Polish: powiat brzozowski) is a unit of territorial administration and local government in Subcarpathian Voivodeship, south-eastern Poland. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998.

After the negative opinion of the Heraldic commission and the rejection of the first county symbols, new symbols of the Brzozów County had to be created. The new symbols of Brzozów County, adopted on february 4, 2010 by the County Council in the 39th session.

The flag of Brzozów County shows on a blue rectangular clouth a crowned golden half-headed eagle, under which a tree trunk of a birch, in natural color, embraced with down three golden leaves. The figures are from the shield of the County CoA of Brzozow County

The Coat of Arms was adopted in late 2009, after obtaining a favorable opinion of the Committee on Heraldry. Previously, the Commission rejected the project. Author of the heraldic-historical project is Vladimir Chorązki, Historian from the Jagiellonian University, and making graphic by Mariusz Paluch, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Jagiellonian University employee.

Two-headed eagle in the two projects relates to the CoA of Land Sanok, of which the current county Brzozowski was part of from the 1470's to the year 1772. Birch refers to the name of the district capital, Brzozówa, as well as the old coat of arms of the city, used until 2009.

The blue shield / field in the symbols refers to the target color with the CoA of Land Sanok, and symbolizes the clear sky and the river San, flowing through the county. Blue is the color of faith and the Virgin Mary. By contrast, gold (yellow) symbolizes the divine majesty and the king, as the Anointed of God, the revelation of the Holy Spirit and the nobility.
