Stężyca rural district

Stężyca - rural commune, Ryki County, Lubelskie Voivodship - former name: gmina Pawłowice.
Gmina Stężyca is a rural gmina (commune) in Ryki County, Lublin Voivodship, in eastern Poland. Its seat is the village of Stężyca. It lies approximately 28 km
(17 mi) west of Ryki and 81 km (50 mi) north-west of the regional capital Lublin.
Area: 116.78 square kilometres (45.1 sq mi); Population: 5,473 (2006).

Mentioned as Stanzitia in 1325-27, Stazicza in 1365, Stanzicza in 1441 and as Sthęzicza in 1569. The name is related to "water".
In 1575, the site of the Sejm (Parliament) after Henri de Valoiś abandonment of Polish throne.

Arms and flag adopted on October 11, 2006 (resolution # XLIV/256/2006).

"Arms: on the red shield a golden oak under which a black wild boar walking on green grass.

Flag: red rectangle in the ratio 5:8 on which the Arms without the shield are displayed."
