Coat of Arms

Blazon: I rødt tre gull valmuer stilt i trepass. In English: Gules three poppies in pall.
Approved by the royal resolution of 9 February 1990 after a drawing by Arvid Sveen.
A local school web site explains that the depicted poppy is the Læstadius poppy (actually named in English the arctic poppy, Papaver laestadianum), named after the botanist Lars Levi Læstadius. The species is endemic in the border region of Treriksrøysa (Three-Country Cairn), the three-point of Norway, Sweden and Finland, and the pall (Y-shape) in the arms also symbolise the three-county meeting point.
