Background

Akwa Ibom is one of the 36 states in Nigeria which were created in 1987.  It is located in the southern part of the country, to the east of the commercial capital of Lagos.  It is border on the east by Cross Rivers State, on the west by Rivers State and Abia State, and on the south by the Atlantic Ocean.  It is currently the highest oil- and gas-producing state in the country.

State Seal

Akwa Ibom adopted new state symbols in September 2020.  These included a flag, coat of arms and state seal. The details of these new symbols were published on its official Twitter page.
