Windhoek municipal flag

Windhoek is the capital and largest city in Namiba which is located in the centre of the country.

The municipal flag has a white background the municipal logo in the centre.  The logo is a stylized rendition of the Windhoek aloe (Aloe Rubrolutea) from the city’s coat of arms.   The flag has a thin golden border/fringe on all sides.

Windhoek municipal coat of arms

image sent by Bruce Berry, 12 Feb 2014

Windhoek still uses the coat of arms granted by the then Administrator of South West Africa on 01 October 1966.  These were later registered with the South African Bureau of Heraldry on 02 October 1970.  Initially a stylized aloe was the principle charge but this was later amended to a natural aloe on 15 September 1972.  The Arms are described as:

ARMS: Argent, a Windhoek aloe (Aloe Rubrolutea) with a raceme of three flowers on an island, proper.
CREST: A mural crown Or.
MOTTO: SUUM CUIQUE (To every man his own).
