Located in Fukui City Fukui Prefecture and established in 1949. The university flag has blue background with a white and blue emblem and the university name in white and English written horizontally. The university emblem was adopted in
October 2004
, following the merger of the former University of Fukui and the former Fukui Medical University, after public solicitation from inside and outside the university. The artist is Mr. Yoshiaki Yanagimoto, a resident of Machida City, Tokyo. The university emblem consists of two circles joined together to form the shape of infinity. Those circles represent "University of Fukui and Fukui Medical University" before the merger and "science and technology" in the philosophy, while the infinity represents the potential of the new university. The inverted part in the center represents the letter "f," the initials of the University of Fukui. The blue color represents "Fukui's beautiful sea and sky" and "youth and intelligence.
