The university flag has purple background with a blue, sky blue and white emblem in the center and horizontal writing white kanji university name. The university emblem is designed based on the initials U and T for UNIVERSITY and TOKUSHIMA, respectively. The rectangle on the back of the emblem represents Shikoku, where the University of Tokushima is located. The overlapping U symbolizes the university's academic and educational achievements contributing to the development of the local and international community, and the knowledge and culture being passed on like an echo. The overall color scheme is inspired by the Yoshino River, which symbolizes the eternal flow of human resources that leave Shikoku and spread their wings to the world, the blue sky and blue sea of Tokushima, which symbolize the dreams of young people, and the color of indigo, a specialty of Tokushima.
