The municipality of Otok (5,782 inhabitants in 2001, 3,138 in the town of Otok; not to be confused with the Town of Otok in Vukovar-Srijem County) is located east of Sinj.

Flag of Otok

The symbols of Otok (municipal website), approved (adopted or publicly unveiled) on St. Luke's Day, 18 October 2006, were designed by Ivan Botica (biography), Assistant Professor at the Department of History of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, and Ivan Grgat, an academic painter from Zagreb.

The flag (photo) is vertical, white with the coat of arms set in the upper half (apparently, the bottom of the arms "touches" the median). The golden border is described as being like the wattlework on the cross from the remaining pluteus from the former church of Udovičići, near Otok.

The coat of arms is "Gules a winged ox holding a book argent and in the base a disk or ensigned with five concentric rings and a cross in the middle". Under the shield is a blue ribbon inscribed with the name of the municipality.
The winged ox is the attribute of St. Luke, the patron saint of Otok. The disk at the base is the "celestial star", a stone pluteus, the only remain from the old Croatian church in Gala near Otok. Today the circles are interpreted to stand for the five villages in the municipality and their unity in religion. The blue color of the ribbon is standing for river Cetina and its tributaries.
