Flag of Noidans-lès-Vesoul

The flag of Noidans-lès-Vesoul (photo) is white with the municipal arms in the center, with "COMMUNE DE" written in red letters forming an arch above the arms and "NOIDANS-LES-VESOUL" written in blue letters below the arms.

The arms of Noidans (municipal website, archived page) are inspired by the arms of Claude de la Palud, lord of Noidans, who granted a charter to the villagers in 1496. These arms were "Gules a cross ermine".
When the municipality of Noidans adopted these arms as its own, the drawing found in an old heraldry book was copied: the vertical hatching used to symbolize gules was considered as genuine pallets. In spite of being historically incorrect, the arms of Noidans should not be changed: they are compliant with the rules of heraldry, they follow the recommendations by the Department Heraldry Commission not to reuse old feudal arms without any modification, and, finally, they are widely used by the municipality and recognized by the inhabitants. They should be represented in a consistent way, that is with a white background, 10 red pallets in each quarter, a blue cross and a semy of white ermine spots.
The municipal website currently shows the arms with red quarters, while they are shown with pallets on the flag's photo.
