Introduction

Riverworld is a pentalogy by famous US SciFi writer Philip José Farmer. In short: It's about a planet with a huge single river, where dead people find themselves "resurrected" again and again. A number of books of short stories were published as well.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 3 & 5 July 2001 & 16 April 2007

The Sci Fi Channel produced a pilot movie of the same name for an unrealized TV series based on the novels in 2001.

The Mark Twain

Samuel Clemens (also known as Mark Twain) is the captain of a large wheel ship named Mark Twain, later renamed to Not for rent [II], whose ensign and (identical) jack are briefly described:

It's a plain light blue flag with a red phoenix bird thereon (jack described as "blue", not light, though I doubt any difference was intended). The symbolism is obvious, as these people (36 billion estimate) keep "resurrecting" every time they die, always in a naked and more or less young body, somewhere along the immense river valley.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 3 July 2001

In the movie, the blue-with-red-phoenix ensign described in the book was not used. Also the riverboat was renamed the "Go For Broke".

Other flags

The parts I've read so far include some flags (not as many as it would be possible, though), but no others are described.

Vandals

The Vandals, led by Valdemar and later Nero, use a flag consistently: A dark-red/black swallowtail.
