Presentation of Quintanar del Rey

The municipality of Quintanar del Rey (7,589 inhabitants in 2018, therefore the 3rd most populous municipality in the province; 7,981 ha; municipal website) is located on the border with the Province of Albacete, 100 km south of Cuenca and 50 km north of Albacete.
Quintanar del Rey must have emerged as a quintería, that is, a farm. The village, known as Quintanar del Marquisado de Villena, was renamed to Quintanar del Rey in 1561 by Philip V, as a reward for its loyalty to the king.
