Introduction of Pellworm Subcounty

Neither the subcounty nor the municipalities of Pellworm island [Frisian: Polweerm] have proper flags. There is an administrative cooperation (Verwaltungsgemeinschaft / VG) with the city of Husum

Pellworm Subcounty Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a silver (=white) shield is the red ruin of a church tower flanked by a waning moon crescent on the dexter side and a 6-point star on the sinister side. Both elements are red. The base is green over blue and silver (= white) waves.
Meaning:
Crescent and star have been taken from the arms of former Husum County, to which the island belonged. The ruin is that of the church of the former island of Strand from the 12th century, which had been torn by heavy floods into smaller islands. The green line is symbolizing the dyke, protecting the island from the sea below.

The coat of arms was approved on 21 June 1956. The artist is Rudolf Strey from Herrnhallig.
