Abensberg Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter lozengy of Argent and Azure, at sinister parted per bend of Argent and Sable, over all two swords Argent in saltire hilted Or.
Meaning:
The dexter half displays the arms of Bayern, the sinister half those of the Imperial Barons of Abensberg. The kin died out in 1485. Before in 1348 they granted the rights of a market town to Abensberg. Local seals from that time displayed the shield of the lords with a bendlet sinister as distinguishing mark. Since 1523 the arms were parted per bend of Sable and Argent with two bendlets sinister Sable in the silver field. Lozenges and swords were added in 1809. The arms were granted on occasion of the battle of Abensberg (19./20. April 1809) where Napoleon and his Bavarian allies defeated the Austrian forces.

The colours of the banner are traditional. The arms were granted in on 31 December 1809 by King Max I Joseph of Bayern.
