Coat of Arms

Shield Or, a facetted 6-point star Sable, charged with a fleur-de-lis Argent.
Meaning:
Around the castle of the Counts of Schwalenberg-Waldeck a market town developed in the 12th century, first mentioned as a city in 1232. The existence of a city seal is proven by prints since 1254. The seal displayed the arms of the Counts of Waldeck, a 8-pointed star in a shield fretty. A second seal from 1266 displayed the same pattern. Since 1327 the number of points of the star had been reduced to six as a distinguishing mark to the arms of the Counts of Waldeck. The same pattern asserted itself in the 19th century, as the arms of Waldeck County had the same pattern with an 8-point star. The fleur-de-lis is representing the former city of Sachsenhausen, which had been incorporated into Waldeck city on 1 October 1971.
