Waghäusel Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Or a chapel Gules, at sinister Azure a throughout cross faceted Argent.
Meaning:
In 1975 Waghäusel merged with Kirrlach and Wiesental. The new municipality gained city rights on 1 May 1984. According to a legend in 1435 a shepherd discovered a miraculous picture of St. Mary in an oak tree. He built a small house on the spot, called "cottage at the Wagbach (a creek)", which very soon became a place of pilgrimage. At the end of the 15th century the Bishop of Speyer built a chapel at the very same place. The dexter half in the tinctures of Baden is alluding to the chapel. The cross is referring to the fact that all former municipalities belonged to the bishopric until 1802/1803.
