Kirchzarten Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Or, a bear rampant Sable, armed and tongued Gules, holding by his left forepaw a trunk Argent with cut branches; at sinister Argent a throughout cross Gules couped per pale.
Meaning:
In the Medieval the village was core of extensive estates of Sankt Gallen Imperial Abbey in the Breisgau and the Black Forest. In 1297 it was acquired by the Order of St. John and bought by the City of Freiburg as a seat for its reeves in the valley. The dexter half is a modification the arms of Sankt Gallen and the sinister half of the City of Freiburg. The tinctures of the sinister half are also alluding to the Austrian rule until 1805.
