Walsrode Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
Lesser armsThe base is filled by a red wall masoned black. Upon the wall in a blue field stands a silver (= white) church with red roofs and port and windows blue. The church has two towers and a ridge turret. In the greater armsthe shield is topped by a blue helmet crested by a blue and red mural crown and scarves of the same colour.
Meaning:
In 1383 Walsrode gained city rights. Probably since this time there existed seals bearing this image. The existence could be proven since 1479. The image shows the monastery of St. John in Walsrode, which had been established in 986. The colours are based on the images in H.Ahrens "Hannoversche Landschafts-und Städtewappen", 1891.
