The small town of Mrákotín is 7 km from the town of Telč on the road between Brno and České Budějovice, and counts 930 inhabitants. Although the village was documented in 1385, it is known already in the 12th century. It belonged to the castle of Štamberk, later to Telč. It is not known when Mrákotín became a town, but it did have a seal in 1569, on which it is mentioned as a town. Emperor Leopold I granted the town of Mrákotín the privilege of holding two annual fairs in 1684. The predecessor of the present coat of arms was the seal granted in 1768. In the top red field is white antlers with in the center a silver cone; in the bottom a golden rose on a blue field. The antlers are the symbol of the family Podstatský from Lichtenstein; the five-petaled rose reminds of the Lords of Neuhaus.
