Municipality

Saint-Edmond was established in the 1890s by pioneers coming from Normandin.
The first mass was celebrated on 20 December 1930 in the local school by Joseph-Edmond Tremblay, parish priest of Normandin.
In 1937, the inhabitants required from the municipalities of Normandin, Girardville and Saint-Thomas the erection of the new parish of Saint-Edmond-les-Plaines, named for Joseph-Edmond Tremblay, and from the bishop of Chicoutimi the canonical erection of the parish. The new Municipal Council was inaugurated on 4 October 1938.
