Municipality

The municipality of Fortierville (908 inhabitants in 2018; 3,770 ha) is located on the southern shore of river Saint-Lawrence, 40 km north-west of Bécancour.

Since June 3, 1998, only the name Fortierville is used. On that date, the municipality of the village of Fortierville and the municipality of the parish of Sainte-Philomène-de-Fortierville came together to form the new municipality of Fortierville. This name pays tribute to the Fortier family, who cleared the land and worked hard to build the village as it is today.

From http://www.fortierville.com/show.php?id=96/le_logo_de_fortierville:

The logo offers a rural image evocative of the joie de vivre and natural charm of the small municipality of Fortierville. It gives a panoramic view of the municipality under an orange-red sunset. In the foreground, figures resembling shoots and a sheaf of wheat seem to emerge from the name “Fortierville”. In the background, the agricultural landscape with rolling hills suggests a church steeple in the distance. This superposition of elements seen both near and far takes us to a very interesting expanded perspective. It suggests to us a look close at oneself, at people and the needs of daily life, but also a look far away, on the future and on the continuity of the quality of life for future generations.
