Municipality

The municipality of L'Ancienne-Lorette (16,543 inhabitants in 2016; 770 ha) is totally enclaved inside the municipality of Quebec.

L'Ancienne-Lorette was established in 1673 by a Huron nation called Notre-Dame-de-Lorette. The Hurons moved in 1697 to the present-day's Wendake Reserve, calling the place Jeune [Young] Lorette. Notre-Dame-de-Lorette was renamed to Vieille [Old] Lorette, a name changed to Ancienne-Lorette when the civil parish was erected in 1722.
The municipality of L'Ancienne-Lorette, established in 1845, was inaugurated only in July 1855.
The town of L'Ancienne-Lorette was incorporated in Quebec, even if 98% of the inhabitants had voted against the merging. The municipality was re-established after 74% of the inhabitants had voted for in a referendum organized in 2004.

In autumn 2014, the citizens of L'Ancienne-Lorette were asked about their opinion and feelings about the municipality. The citizens clearly stated that they felt united by strong belonging and mutual aid feelings, in a unique town that combines first-quality services and infrastructure with a human and personalized approach.
Solidarity linking the citizens is symbolized by the circle and the word "uni" [united] inside "unique", highlighted by a contrasting color.

The municipality appears to have had an earlier flag, which I found on this website. The date is unknown: http://www.cc2846.com/historique.html?fbclid=IwAR12GHATp05cYXo2ZZKNX5ArlbMsbsc1WOq7ZtwZ2oq2AtGkEzUDiMCdI24

The municipality appears to have had an earlier flag, which I found on this website. The date is unknown:
The original logo was adopted in 1987 by the municipality. It features the church of Notre-Dame de l'Annonciation, recalling the rural and parochial origins of the town, and the silhouette of a stylized tree, evoking quality of life and the resources of the environment. Green is a symbol of nature, growth and hope.
The logo was modernized in 2015, using a brighter shade of green and a simplified typography.
