Description of the flag

I  was told by City Administrator Nick Haggenmiller that the city seal was designed several years ago with the inspiration of the seal of another Minnesota city. The flag was quickly designed by the assistant city administrator with the city seal and lines in reference to Howard Lake. Mr. Haggenmiller assures me that he was completely unaware that his flag is similar to the flag of nearby Crystal MN. The flag was adopted in August 2019.

The previous flag was the result of a city contest in 1999. The winner was chosen by a committee from a small number of entries. The flag shows the historically registered Howard Lake City Hall building. This image of the flag is from a Google Maps scan of October 2014.
