Coat of Arms

[Flag of Haugesund] image by Tomislav Šipek, 22 October 2015

Norwegian blazon: På rød bunn et opprett gull anker. The English would make it: gules an anchor or. (The Norwegian blazon mentions that the anchor is "upright", but it is not necessary to state so in English, I guess.) The coat of arms was approved by the royal resolution of 1 June 1951, drawn by Halvar Trætteberg. The anchor symbolises, of course, that Narvik is the country's largest port.
