Blazon: Delt blått og sølv ved palisadesnitt. In English: Per fess urdy azure
and argent.
Approved by the royal resolution of 9 January 1987 after a drawing by Einar H.
Skjervold. [c2j87]
The
municipal web site explains that the design is based on four monoliths in
Børsa, that are supposedly part of ancient graveyard from between 5 adn 10 c.
AD.
The local tradition states that these stones is where Einar Tambarskjelve moored
his ships, and he owned a fort in Husaby in Skaun. Husaby is also known in
Norwegian literature as where Kristin Lavransdatter of the same named
masterpiece novel by Sigrid Undset, is from. Einar Eindridesson Thambarskelfir,
as known in English, was an influential Norwegian nobleman competing for the
power of Norway against Olaf Haraldsson (St. Olav). He is renown bowmen, and
show in the coat of arms of neighboring Melhus.
