Approved by the royal resolution of 19 February 1982 after a drawing by Bjørn 
Casper Horgen after an idea by Magne Jostein Hoel. [c2j87]

The design is inspired by the Rennebu church, the oldest Y-shaped churches built 
in Norway in 1669. The shape is also symbolic, they say, for Berkåk as the 
centre with arms stretching in valleys towards Soknedal, Oppdal and Meldal.
