Shield

The flag and arms of Rybnitsa were approved on 30 October 2003 by the Presidium of the City of Rybnitsa and the District Council of People’s Deputies.

The emblem of Rybnitsa is composed of a shield with golden yellow (inner) and red (outer) outlines. The shield's field reproduces the flag's color scheme. Archangel Michael is featured in golden yellow, with red outline. The shield's base is inscribed with "1628", the year the town was founded.

Archangel Michael, a warrior and justice administrator, is a symbol of  virtue. Called in Scripture “the Prince”, “the Leader of the Host of the Lord”, Michael is portrayed as the main fighter against the devil and all lawlessness among the people. Hence his church name, “Archangel”, that is, "the Elder Warrior", "the Leader". On icons, he is depicted holding a fiery sword in his hand, or with a spear overthrowing the devil. In the beginning of the 4th century, the Church established 21 November as the Feast of the “Council” (the totality) of Holy Angels, presided by Archangel Michael.
