The college emblem is paulownia flowers and leaves with kanji 大 added, and the three pillars represent "knowledge, virtue, and body. The paulownia emblem is considered the second most prestigious emblem in Japan after the chrysanthemum emblem, as it has been used as a pattern on the emperor's clothing since the time of Emperor Saga, according to one theory, following the sacredness of the paulownia tree in ancient China as the tree on which the phoenix would stop.
