Located in Sendai City Miyagi Prefecture and established in 1964. The embroidered ceremonial flag has blue background with a gold-colored emblem in gold fringe. The institute flag has blue background with a white emblem and white English institute name horizontally written. (Source) The base of the institute emblem was designed in 1964 from the kanji letters of "工大" (institute of technology). The character "工", which shows a rhythmic form aiming for the heavens, symbolizes a great ideal and purpose, while the character "大" symbolizes an unshakable foundation and stability on the ground. In 2003, the design was refined to a more modern look, combining the "工" and "大" into a single shape. The combination of the rhythmical overlapping of straight lines with diagonally cut edges and the arrow pointing upward represents the upward attitude and dynamism of Tohoku Institute of Technology, which upholds "Creation and Integration”.
