Located in Setagaya City Tokyo and established in 1949. The embroidered ceremonial hanging flag has navy blue background with a gold emblem in gold fringe. The university flag has purple background with a white emblem. The university emblem was inspired by the cap design of its predecessor, the prewar Musashi Technical College, which was based on the leaves of an oak tree planted at the school gate at the time. After the school was promoted to Musashi Institute of Technology, the cap was replaced by only the letters 工大, but later the design of an oak leaf was revived as the lapel, which became the university emblem. In April 2009, when Tokyo City University was born, it inherited this beloved an oak leaf design and added the initials "TCU" for TOKYO CITY UNIVERSITY to create a new university emblem.
