Located in Osaka City Osaka Prefecture and established in 2022. The university flag has orange background with a white logo mark and the university name in white Chinese characters written horizontally. The logo mark was adopted on January 29, 2021; Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University merged to form the new Osaka Public University in April 2022. The logo mark is a fusion of the three traditional symbols of Osaka City University, Osaka Prefecture, and Osaka City: the gingko tree, the cherry tree, and the palm tree. It represents the tradition of the two universities that have led the metropolis of Osaka for approximately 140 years, and their commitment to continue education and research rooted in the local community as public universities. The form which extends and blossoms from the center, expresses the image of people and knowledge gathering at Osaka Public University, the "center of knowledge," and flying out into the world. The concept is "tradition and flight. The five golden leaves, inspired by the prefectural tree, Ginkgo biloba, were placed on a silver shaft, which represents the base of the city, in the shape of an open cherry blossom, the city flower. The image of a palm, which was the symbol of the city university, is also superimposed. The symbolic colors are gold and silver, which indicate the university's stature as an advanced research university that will develop globally.
