Located in Gifu City Gifu Prefecture and established in 1949. The embroidered ceremonial flag has red background with a gold color emblem in gold fringe. The red of the university flag represents sincerity and red heart, in other words, passionate blood. The red represents sincerity, which means that nothing can be accomplished without a fiery passion and unyielding spirit. After undergoing reorganization, it has remained in its original form up to the present, with the establishment of the Constitution in 2014. The university flag has wine red color vertical (and horizontal) background with a white emblem in the center. At Gifu Pharmaceutical University, Hirano, the principal of Gifu College of Pharmacy, the predecessor of Gifu Pharmaceutical College, designed the kanji characters "岐薬"=initials of the university and a pair of Phoenixes in 1932 as the Nagara River is nicknamed the Phoenix River and used them as the university emblem. The phoenix is a bird of fire that appears when the Holy Son of Heaven is present, and it is the best way to embrace the university and to pray for its future development.
