Cista Provo is located some 50 km east of Split. It has almost 3,700 inhabitants, only some 500 of them living in the village of the same name. Two other villages are more populous, Aržano (750 inh.) and Cista Belika (1,150 inh.).

The symbols of Cista Provo are described in Article 5 of the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Cista Provo (text), adopted on 17 August 2009 by the Municipality Council and published in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Cista Provo, No. 7.
The coat of arms was already presented in 2007 on the municipal website, then titled "unofficial coat of arms". It must have been adopted in the mean time and, possibly, it still awaits for approval by the central authorities.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, in the "top left corner" of the flag.

The coat of arms is "Gules two keys in saltire, dexter or and sinister argent".
This is a reference to St. Peter, the patron saint of the church in Cista Provo. Its feast, 29 June, is celebrated as the Municipality Day.
