The ensign was
almost certainly unauthorised, if it ever existed. The burgee was correct, and
perhaps the ensign was a club-house flag. The club was formed some time after
1856, raced on the Thames between Battersea and Putney, but was defunct before
1889, when Ranelagh Sailing Club was formed, although the International Burgee
Registry says that the yacht club merged with the sailing club.

There is an
existing Ranelagh Yacht Club in Mount Eliza, Melbourne, Australia.

It doesn't actually say that the Yacht Club was defunct at that time (1889),
just that several of its members joined the sailing club.

You are probably right. That it was
called the Ranelagh Sailing Club, rather than the Ranelagh Yacht Club, does
suggest that the latter may still have been in existence.
