Presentation of Bustillo de la Vega

The municipality of Bustillo de la Vega (332 inhabitants in 2010; 1,899 ha; municipal website) is located 60 km from Palencia.

Bustillo is named for the diminutive form of busto, "an area burned for agricultural purposes". "de la Vega" refers to the plain (vega) surrounding river Carrión. Bustillo was resettled in 860 by Count Rodrigo, the whole Saldaña area being resettled in 866 by King of León Ordoño I.
The village of Lagunilla de la Vega, part of the municipality of Bustillo, is said to be the site of the Roman settlement of Lacobriga, without any archeological evidence, though.
In 2009, the National Institute of Statistics granted to Bustillo de la Vega the title of "cleanest village" in Spain.
