Introduction

Located in: Kiel
Established: 1887
The German Maritime Federation (Deutscher Marinebund) was established on 14 March 1891 as Federation of German Maritime Clubs (Bund deutscher Marinevereine) with seat in Laboe. It has currently more than 300 local branches. It was a club exclusivly for members of the navy in service and primarily for former members.
The Naval Regatta Club (Marine Regatta-Verein) had been the yacht club of the federation. It was established in 1887 by military and civil officers of the Imperial German Navy. Since 1891, then belonging to the federation also persons not belonging to the navy were allowed to gain a membership. Prince Heinrich became protector of the club and Emperor Wilhelm II as its commodore transformed the club to Kaiserlicher Yacht Club.
By an order of German Minister of Defence Wilhelm Groener 328 members were enforced to quit their membership. For them the Marine Regatta-Verein was re-established in June 1928. Together with the German Navy it was dissolved in 1945 but revived by the German Maritime Federation in 1972. Besides the main branch in Kiel the club today has bases as follows in:
Bielefeld, Erfurt, Essen-Kupferdreh, Forchheim, Hannover, Hof/Saale, Kiel, Neuss, Peenemünde, Rhein-Hunsrück, Salzgitter, Starnberg, Stuttgart and Waren / Müritz..
