On 4 September Güstrow county and Bad Doberan county merged. The name of the new county is Rostock county, the seat of the county is GüstrowGüstrow.

The flag was quarterly divided into yellow (upper hoist and lower fly) and blue (lower hoist and upper fly). Both hoist quarters together show the new coat of arms without shield.

Shield parted per fess; above Or a bull's head caboshed sable croned Or, armed Argent and tongued Gules; beneath Azure griffin's head Or; in the centre two croziers in saltire Gules in the upper field and Or in the lower field.
Meaning:
According to source the bull is representing Güstrow, the griffin Rostock. The croziers are representing Bad Doberan.

Shield parted by a crozier Argent in fess pointing to dexter; above Azure a griffin passant Argent; beneath Or a bull's head caboshed Sable, crowned Or, armed Argent and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
The crozier is alluding to the city of Bad Doberan, seat of the county, and to the Cistercian Abbey of Doberan, which owned large estates in the area. The griffin is taken fom the arms of theLordship of Rostock, to which belonged the bigger part of the county. The bull's head is alluding to the Lordship of Werle, to which belonged the area around Bützow.

Shield parted per fess; above Or a bull's head caboshed Sable, crowned Or, armed Argent, tongued Gules with nostrils GHules, flanked by two facettd 6-point stars Gules; benathe patrted per fess of Gules and Or, two croziers in counterchanged tinctures in saltire.
Meaning:
The biggest part belonged to the Lordship of Werle, represented by the bull's head. The stars are symbolising the merger of two former counties having nearly the same size. Those were the old counties of Güstrow and Teterow. The lower field is representing the Bishopric of Schwerin, to which belonged the area around Bützow.
