Bürgstadt Coat of Arms

Shield Gules with base Vert, a castle Argent with an embattled wall flanked by two embattled towers, in central chief an impending 6-spokes wheel Argent.
Meaning:
The village had been seat of a parish of the Archbishopric of Mainz, to which it belonged probably since the 8th century until 1803. It had been an important market town for ages and it is strange that there hadn't been any older town seals. The current pattern is based on the medal of the mayor from 1820. All later seals and arms basically displayed the same pattern. The wheel and the tinctures red and silver are alluding to the rule of the archbishops. The castle (German: Burg) is a canting element.

The arms are in use since the 19th century. The banner probably has never been approved officially.
